Educational representation

The IEU is actively engaged in representing members views on a wide range of issues.

State

The IEU has a position on the current NSW Board of Studies, a key body in determining the operations and policies of education in NSW. The IEU also has representatives on board curriculum committees.

The IEU Education Issues Committee (elected by IEU Council) has developed IEU submissions on a series of NSW Government reviews of education and consults extensively with other groups in the education community (including other teacher unions, employers and parents).

The IEU has been prominent in the field of early childhood education, and has made many representations to the NSW Government on issues such as funding and regulations.

The IEU establishes reference groups to promote the exchange of information in new areas of development or in time of change. Current groups include the Vocational Education Reference Group and the Information Technology Reference Group.

Our national union

Our national union is the Independent Education Union of Australia. This union is able to protect members' industrial interests at a national level, as well as participate in the broad range of education areas discussed above.

The union provides an invaluable forum for discussing issues of common concern to teachers and education employees in all States and Territories of Australia.
