IEU Council: Motions for the Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) Sector

On 22 March, the IEU Council carried the following motions relating to the Early Childhood Education and Care Sector.

Motion calling for G8 Education to introduce employer-funded paid parental leave

As one of Australia’s largest providers of early childhood education and care, we call on G8 Education to demonstrate they value the teachers and educators whose primary goal is to support families of young children in G8 Early Learning Centres by introducing employer-funded paid parental leave for their 10,000 early childhood teachers and educators.

Motion calling for the withdrawal of the Child Care Subsidy for ECEC services breaching National Regulations

IEU Council calls on the Federal Government to withdraw access to the Child Care Subsidy for ECEC services that repeatedly breach the National Regulations and any centre that poses a genuine risk to children. Council calls for increased financial support to be provided to non profit services, which have triple the proportion of high quality services exceeding the National Quality Standard compared to for profit services.

Motion supporting a parliamentary inquiry into the early learning system following investigations by the ABC

In the wake of the ABC investigation on Australia’s Early Education and Care Sector, we support a parliamentary inquiry into the early learning system, particularly the for profit providers and the pay and conditions of the workforce.

Council stands with our members who educate and care for thousands of children across NSW and ACT with professionalism and dedication.
