Position vacant: Education and Campaign Officials (Early Childhood Education and Care) – 2 positions

  • Contract positions:10 March 2025 – 30 June 2026
  • Location: Ultimo

Are you passionate about social justice, gender equity, and workers’ rights? The IEU is seeking to appoint two ‘Education and Campaign Officials’ to play a key role in improving the pay and conditions of Early Childhood Education and Care workers (ECEC). The critical work performed by ECEC teachers and educators has long been undervalued. Addressing the undervaluation of the work is critical not just for ECEC teachers and educators but for young children, their families, our communities and for the economy.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

This is a contract position starting 10 March 2025 to 30 June 2026. You will be part of a dedicated and supportive team, working closely with our industrial team as you work towards maximising the number of employees and ECEC services that access funded wage rises for ECEC employees.

Comprehensive training will be provided on all aspects of the role.

The role will involve working from our office and will also involve travel to visit ECEC services across New South Wales (a motor vehicle for work purposes will be available).

Key Responsibilities

As an Education and Campaign Official, you will:

  • Reach out to the ECEC sector in NSW, briefing them on the scheme and how to secure the funding for their staff.
  • You will be required to engage with ECEC services across various regions via direct visits, phone banking, or email. Remote meetings in country NSW will be conducted by Zoom or Microsoft Teams.
  • You will have access to expert support to assist in advice to employees and services.
  • You will be required to map out your activities a month in advance and participate in fortnightly reviews with the responsible Executive Officer and Industrial Officer.
  • You will be involved in providing statistics on the number of services securing funded wage rises by executing a compliant workplace instrument.

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for an astute communicator who can quickly build rapport with staff at Early Childhood Centres. The ideal candidate:

  • Can work effectively as a member of a team, whilst also having the ability to work independently, to manage workloads, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines
  • Has strong communication skills – experience in motivating people to take action, the ability to write clear and concise content and is comfortable approaching people in person, on the phone and by email
  • Is able to engage with a wide variety of stakeholders, including ECEC staff, services and other stakeholders
  • Has a demonstrated commitment to the principles of the trade union movement.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary will be commensurate with skills and experience, on a range starting from $90,000 to over $140,000.

Closing date:           Thursday 20 February at noon.
