The Independent Education Union of Australia NSW/ACT Branch represents the industrial and professional interests of teachers, support staff and operational staff in non-government schools.
ABOUT YOU
The ideal candidate will possess relevant tertiary qualifications in digital communications, graphic design or media.
THE ROLE
As a member of the publications and communications team, your role will focus on maximising the union’s profile and opportunities on all digital platforms. As part of the team, you will work with the Digital Manager and Media and Communications Coordinator in developing material for the website, social media, photography, videography and some contribution to the print publications.
The position will be based in Ultimo, Sydney.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work collaboratively within a small communications team to develop high-quality communications materials, including social media, print publications, media releases, and video content
- Together with the team help develop innovative digital campaigns to engage and recruit members
- Build the union’s profile online across our website and social media platforms to engage members and encourage potential members to join
- Capture videos and photos for the union website and campaign communications
- Produce creative and interesting content, including graphics/tiles and short videos, to accompany the union’s campaigns and messaging
- Contribute to website content, helping to keep news current, share analytics and insights
- Contribute text, stories, images and assist with proofreading publications as needed
- Work with the team to execute media strategies
- Liaise with union organisers to produce content to publish
- Contribute to production, distribution and tracking of eNewsletters
- Keep up to date with news, current affairs and developments in social media and campaigning
- Share your skills and ideas with the team.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability in developing digital communications material (please provide examples with your application)
- Commitment to the principles of the trade union movement
- A willingness to work collaboratively under the guidance of the Digital Communications Manager and the Media and Communications Coordinator to produce high-quality content for print and online
- An understanding of tracking impact on social media
- Experience with Canva, and knowledge of Adobe Suite an advantage
- Ability to respond quickly and collaboratively to breaking news
- A willingness to understand and target messaging to the union’s key audiences
- Strong organisational skills, good teamwork skills and attention to detail.

PAY AND CONDITIONS
- Salary range: $85,000 – 95,000
- Hours of work: 35-hour week, occasional overtime
- Superannuation: 13.5%
