The Independent Education Union of Australia NSW/ACT Branch (IEU) represents the industrial and professional interests of teachers, support staff and operational staff in non-government schools. The union employs nearly 80 staff.
ABOUT YOU
The IEU is looking for a qualified HR professional to support and guide human resources practices and processes across the union. As the HR Leader you will work closely with the leadership team and department heads to provide HR advice and assistance. The role will be key in recruiting, developing, and retaining staff, with a focus on fostering a positive and supportive workplace culture and leading workplace change. A commitment to social justice and union values is essential.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources or similar qualification
- A minimum of 5 years of HR experience, preferably in another union or not-for-profit organisation
- Strong knowledge of HR principles, practices, and employment law
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Culture
- Lead continued development of organisational culture and staff engagement by promoting an inclusive, supportive, and collaborative workplace culture that values diversity and encourages teamwork.
- Support and advise the leadership team on organisational change providing advice and support to the wider organisation.
- Support the IEU in its implementation of the IEU’s Strategic Plan
People
- Manage and lead staff recruitment, development, and performance processes.
- Provide new staff and new members of the union Executive with a thorough and welcoming induction program to ensure a smooth transition and successful integration into the union.
- Develop and review job descriptions for all staff, in conjunction with the leadership team.
- Develop and implement HR strategies and processes that prioritise succession planning, employee retention, and professional development, tailored to the union’s specific needs.
- Foster strong, trusting relationships with staff to gain a deep understanding of their needs and deliver tailored HR solutions that support their success and well-being.
- Support the leadership team in implementing a performance review and development program, including performance improvement plans and development needs analysis.
- Manage or advise leadership team on all employment relations matters including leave requests.
- Manage and advise the leadership team of grievance and misconduct claims in accordance with IEU policies and procedures.
- Manage the administration of any workers’ compensation claims and return to work coordination for any staff returning after extended leave.
- Develop and maintain employment-related policies and procedures, and ensure they are consistent.
- Contribute to organisational initiatives and projects that support staff well-being and engagement.
PAY AND CONDITIONS
- Salary range: $150,000 – $170000
- Hours of work: 35 hours
- Superannuation: 14.5%
- 5 weeks annual leave
- Additional long service leave
- Requests for a flexible work arrangement can be discussed and may be accommodated based on individual circumstances.
The position is based in Ultimo, Sydney, about 10 minutes walk from Central Railway Station.
