Welcome to your latest edition of Newsmonth.
In this edition we celebrate our historic gains as we mark our 70th anniversary. Take a look back with us over 70 years of action and achievements, and hear from officials past and present. We hope you enjoy our special commemorative section.
We also celebrate a more recent achievement, with our members in long day care gaining 15% pay rises (10% in December this year and 5% in December next year).
The union has rejected an inadequate pay offer from the Association of Independent Schools. We unpack the details and explain why it’s unacceptable.
Members are the lifeblood of the union, and in this edition two reps and four members from different schools, sectors and countries share their stories with us.
Elsewhere, members got out of the classroom and into nature for our Environment Conference. We congratulate members who were awarded NSW Premier’s Teacher Scholarships, and we explore the new K-6 syllabuses released in NSW.
Read these stories and more in this issue of Newsmonth. We encourage you to share this email with your colleagues and invite them to join the IEU. We are always stronger together.
Carol Matthews
IEUA NSW/ACT Branch Secretary
