IEUA NSW/ACT Branch online communities

The IEUA NSW/ACT represents the industrial and professional interests of staff working in non-government schools, colleges and teachers in early childhood centres.

You can find us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn.

We share important industrial announcements and news and features from our publications, update you on our wins and campaigns, promote events, and alert you to the union’s media appearances.

When engaging with the IEUA NSW/ACT, we ask all followers and users to treat each other with respect, dignity and courtesy. As unionists, we respect each other and we stand for unity and safety. As teachers and school support staff, we stand for education and accurate information.

Terms of Use

In engaging with IEUA NSW/ACT on social media, you understand and agree that the union has ultimate editorial control over all its channels and within its online communities. We may edit, remove, or exercise our discretion not to accept or publish your contribution (post, comments, other). This includes decisions we take for legal, editorial, or operational reasons, including if we consider it to be:

  1. defamatory, or otherwise unlawful or that it violates laws regarding harassment, discrimination, racial vilification, privacy, or contempt. We reserve the right to close comments on posts that may elicit harmful, defamatory, or otherwise unlawful user contributions
  2. intentionally false or misleading
  3. an infringement of intellectual property rights including copyright
  4. abusive, offensive, or obscene
  5. racist, sexist, homophobic or transphobic
  6. inappropriate, off topic, repetitive or vexatious. For example, the IEUA NSW/ACT reserves the right to reject contributions that have been widely canvassed in the forum previously. It also reserves the right to reject contributions from participants who seek to dominate the discussion and push their own agenda. Comments or contributions that have been copied and pasted from other sites or groups will be deleted.
  7. compromising the privacy of any person or containing inappropriate personal information
  8. seeking to endorse commercial products or services
  9. soliciting donations
  10. deliberate provocation of other community members
  11. impersonating someone else.

If you breach these Terms of Use, the union may block your contributions or your account.

To ensure our online presence reflects the union’s values of the IEUA NSW/ACT, our communications team moderates content. Outside of business hours, or where a moderator resource is not available, comments on posts may be turned off or hidden to allow us to uphold and enforce the Terms of Use. Automatic moderation: please note that we have applied an auto filter that prevents posts appearing that use offensive words and that do not reflect our values. We review this filter regularly to add or remove words.

While the IEUA NSW/ACT moderators may respond to contributions or messages on Facebook, neither public posts or comments nor direct messages constitute official IEU advice. If you are a member and require information or assistance on industrial matters, please contact your Organiser or our office. If you send a private message via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or LinkedIn, the union reserves the right not to respond if you don’t include your membership number or we cannot identify you as a current member.

The IEUA NSW/ACT also coordinates and moderates a number of Facebook groups for specific segments of our membership base (early childhood teachers; support staff). These Terms of Use apply to these groups also.

The union strongly recommends that you avoid criticising your employer or colleagues on social media. You can share about your experience of work and the conditions you want to see improved, but please remember that anything posted is permanent – even if you delete it. Prospective employers may search the internet for you and assess your suitability for a position based on what you have posted or engaged in online.
