The IEU represents teachers, support staff and Directors of Studies in the ELICOS (English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students) and Post-Secondary College sector.
We engage in negotiations to improve wages and conditions for staff in this sector through both the award and enterprise bargaining systems, both industry-wide and at individual colleges.
In 1989, we established Australia’s inaugural award in the ELICOS industry, and have been heavily engaged in securing improvements for employees in the sector ever since.
We also give extensive assistance to individual members in the areas of industrial issues, unfair dismissal and pursuing underpayments. Officers from the IEU are available to advise members on entitlements and working conditions, either by phone or email, or by visiting your workplace.
We issue regular updates on developments in the industry, both through the regular Present Tense column in Newsmonth, and in the bi-annual e-newsletter Future Perfect.
